Production Blog: Preparing For The Music Video

During pre-production, I helped choose the song for our music video, and I picked “Beaches” by beabadoobee because I love the artist and the soft feeling of the song. I also liked the beach aesthetic that the song naturally creates. The calm tone of the music helped guide my ideas from the beginning. I wanted the video to have a soft and beachy mood that matched the overall sound. My goal was to make the visuals feel gentle and emotional without being overly dramatic. I wanted everything to look natural and simple so the mood of the song would come through clearly. The beach stood out to me as the location that matched this feeling the best. It fit perfectly with the title of the song, and I was excited to film there. The scenery at the beach helped capture the emotional tone I wanted to create. During this stage, one of my tasks was preparing the photos that would appear in the background of the video. I changed outfits, adjusted lighting, and experimented with settings to make the photos look realistic. I wanted them to look like real memories instead of props. After taking the photos, I helped place them on the wall in a way that supported the emotional message of the video. This small detail helped build the feeling I wanted. My main goal during pre-production was to create an emotion that felt bittersweet. I wanted it to feel similar to how someone might feel if their best friend was moving away. The beach helped show this feeling because it is open and calm. I also prepared my outfits so they matched the soft aesthetic of the song. These choices made the video feel more consistent. Overall, my work in pre-production helped shape the mood and direction of the music video before filming began.
