Production Blog: Behind the Camera

Image
During filming, one of my main behind-the-scenes roles was helping with camera angles and shot decisions. Even when I was acting in a scene, I still paid close attention to how the camera was being used. I suggested several different angles to make sure the video matched the mood of “Beaches” by beabadoobee. One of the main types of shots I suggested was over-the-shoulder shots because they help the audience feel more connected to the characters. These shots made the scenes feel more personal and emotional. I also suggested eye-level shots because they make the interaction between characters feel natural and realistic. One eye-level shot I helped plan started by facing the ocean and then slowly panned over to the two main characters talking. I thought this shot was important because it connected the calm feeling of the ocean with the emotional moment between the characters. I also helped choose wide shots at the beach to show the scenery and make the setting feel open and peaceful...

Production Blog: Beach Day Filming

Image
When I arrived at the beach, the first thing I did was set everything up for filming. I put towels down and organized the area so the space looked ready for the scenes. I also brought snacks and set them up so I could take breaks in between filming. I picked a spot on the beach where there were not many people. Since it was a Wednesday, it was easier to find an open and quiet area. I chose a location that looked good on camera and would not have random people walking in the background. For my outfit, I wore a swimsuit with a cover up, and I changed my hair to make it look like a different day from the earlier scenes. My role was being the best friend, so most of my acting involved hanging out at the beach and doing simple actions like running, sitting, and having fun. I wanted my acting to look natural so the video would match the calm and emotional feeling of the song. I suggested several camera angles, such as over the shoulder shots and eye level shots. I thought these angles w...

Production Blog: Filming at My Friends House

Image
The first thing I did when I arrived at my friend’s house was take the photos for the music video. I helped get the box and the photos put up on the wall. I also decided where the photos should go so that they looked natural and meaningful. I had to change my outfit for each photo and figure out the best lighting and setting. I also had to plan what poses I would do in each picture, so I went online to find inspiration. My role as an actor was to play the best friend, which meant I had to act as if I was meeting up with someone. I also helped suggest camera angles, especially when we went outside. The lighting outside was challenging because some areas were very shady while others were very bright. I had to figure out the best spots to take the photos so they would turn out well. I had to do several retakes for some scenes because too much of the background could be seen. I almost ran out of Polaroid film because the lighting made it difficult to get good shots. I helped adjust th...

Production Blog: Preparing For The Music Video

Image
During pre-production, I helped choose the song for our music video, and I picked “Beaches” by beabadoobee because I love the artist and the soft feeling of the song. I also liked the beach aesthetic that the song naturally creates. The calm tone of the music helped guide my ideas from the beginning. I wanted the video to have a soft and beachy mood that matched the overall sound. My goal was to make the visuals feel gentle and emotional without being overly dramatic. I wanted everything to look natural and simple so the mood of the song would come through clearly. The beach stood out to me as the location that matched this feeling the best. It fit perfectly with the title of the song, and I was excited to film there. The scenery at the beach helped capture the emotional tone I wanted to create. During this stage, one of my tasks was preparing the photos that would appear in the background of the video. I changed outfits, adjusted lighting, and experimented with settings to make t...
