Production Blog: Recording The Scenes

Image
During filming, I took on the role of the ghost for every scene. My part was mostly physical acting, since the character relied more on movement than words. I did have one line, but I kept laughing every time I said it. Because of that, a voiceover had to be done later so the line would sound right. The ghost costume made acting a lot harder than I expected. It was basically a bedsheet, and wearing it outside in the heat was very uncomfortable. On top of that, the bright lighting made it feel even hotter. The sheet also made it hard to see where I was going, so I had to be guided around at times. Even simple movements became tricky because my visibility was limited. I had to reshoot some scenes because I laughed too much or because my timing was off. The lack of visibility caused me to miss cues and make mistakes. One of the hardest scenes to film was when I had to grab the Takis out of the bowl. Since I could not see well, I kept struggling to know when to move or what I was even...

Production Blog: Setting Up The Decorations

Image
When I started getting the set ready, my main job was putting up decorations. I worked on the lights, signs, and caution tape to make the space look like Halloween. At first, I did not have everything I needed. I realized I was missing tape, so I had to make a quick trip to Publix. That part slowed me down, but it made the setup easier once I had it. The tape kept the signs and decorations from falling down, which was important. I also hung up a fake ghost and a bat to help the scene look more complete. Later on, I had to do a fitting for the ghost costume to make sure it worked. The fitting was a very fun process. It was hard figuring out how to make a bed sheet fit; however, the whole process of it was very funny. After the fitting, I actually ended up playing the ghost character myself. I wasn’t ready to record at first, so switching into that role was stressful. Still, it ended up working out better than I expected. The decorations themselves didn’t really have one main prop. ...

Production Blog: Getting Ready For The Set

Image
At the start of the project, I struggled with figuring out what I actually needed to buy. I kept going back and forth on what would make the commercial look complete. I knew the decorations had to match the theme, but I was not sure which details would really matter on camera. After thinking it through, I decided to get Halloween bags for the trick-or-treaters (the actors). The bags were a small detail, but they helped to make the scene more believable. I had to grab them quickly because I did not want to run out of time before filming. I also realized I needed tape and batteries for the props. I almost forgot about these and had to get them last minute. Even though they were small things, they made a big difference in how the set came together. The tape helped keep the decorations up without them falling. The batteries kept some of the props working, which made the background look more realistic. At first, I thought those little details would not matter, but seeing everything put toge...

Pitch Blog-Commercial

Image
Aloria’s Pitch: Pitch 1: This commercial is going to be based on Bath and Body Works products with their scented perfumes, lotions, and sanitizer of the same scent being presented. There will be music with a catchy beat in the background and the perfume will spray with the beat. The song we could use is “Its Tricker” as the beat These body care will be showing how good of a scent they have and show their everyday use. At the end, you will see all the products as the song continues to go on until the end. Conversation: This pitch was a good contender but after discussing it we decided on something better. We figured that this would be difficult to accomplish. We would have a problem gaining access to the products because the cost of the sanitizers, perfumes, and lotions needed would be expensive to purchase.  Jada-Ann’s Pitch: Pitch 2: This commercial is about the cosmetic product concealer. This product from Elf or Sephora will be showing not only its range of shades for people of al...

Group Blog

Image
For the commercial, I am working with Jada-Ann Kates, Aloria Bryant, and Tamia Ellis. We decided to form this group together because we all felt like we would be a good fit for one another. One big reason I chose to work with them is because I live close to them. Since we are all in the same area, it makes it easier for us to meet up in person when needed. My parents also already know them, so I don’t have to introduce new people into my home or explain who they are. That makes things a lot more comfortable for me and for my family. Another reason I chose to work with them is because we have similar work ethics. I know that they are responsible students who will actually do their part. I believe getting our work done on time will not be a problem because everyone in the group takes their grades seriously. We are all motivated to do well in this class, which means we can keep each other on track. When one of us might feel stuck, another person in the group can step in and help. I...

Intro Blog

My name is Qetsia Duclos, and I am in 10th grade. I would describe myself as creative, thoughtful, and determined, but also someone who takes time to open up to others. Outside of school, I am involved in colorguard, and I am also very active in my church community. Baking is another hobby of mine, and it has become something I enjoy both for myself and for others. Along with colorguard, I play the piano, which gives me another way to express myself. Music is a big part of my life, and I enjoy listening to artists such as Daniel Caesar, Frank Ocean, Drake, and Jhené Aiko. I also like watching anime, since it combines interesting stories with unique art styles. When it comes to reading, thrillers and romance novels are my favorite because they keep me engaged from start to finish. One thing about me is that I enjoy trying new experiences, even if they are outside my comfort zone. Family is also very important to me, especially because of my Haitian background. I have one younger b...
