Final changes from review

Image
After getting the review from my friend, I spent some time thinking about what changes I could make to the opening. A lot of the feedback was really helpful because it pointed out things I hadn’t noticed while filming and editing. One of the main things they mentioned was the music not really fitting the story. I thought about changing it, but I realized that with copyright issues and the music I already chose, it was better to keep what I had for now. They also said the plot was a little confusing and that it could be clearer what the girl’s intentions were. I didn’t make big changes to the story itself because the opening is only two minutes, but I did try to emphasize small actions and reactions more so the audience could understand the characters better. Another suggestion was to add more dialogue between the characters. I thought about it, but since I had already filmed and edited the scenes, I couldn’t really add more lines. Instead, I focused on highlighting the lines that...

Peer Review

My friend watched our opening and gave me some feedback on it. One of the first things they said was that the music didn’t really fit the story. They thought it felt kind of off for the mood and said we should pick something that matches the sleepover vibe but also works with the horror parts. They also said the plot was a little confusing sometimes. They thought it could be clearer what the girl’s intentions were so the audience actually understands why things happen. My friend also said we should add more scenes where the actors talk and actually have dialogue. They said if the characters had real conversations, it would make the story easier to follow and more interesting. They thought showing more interaction between the girls would make the ending feel stronger too. Overall, they gave the film a 6 out of 10. They said it was okay, but there were definitely some things that could be better. They mentioned the suspense was there, but it could be stronger if the story and dialo...

Brining the Title Cards to Life

Image
For this part of editing, I focused on adding the title cards, which ended up being one of the more fun parts for me because it let me be creative in a way that felt really visual. Since the title cards were already drawn out on the storyboard, it made everything a lot easier because I already knew roughly where each one was supposed to go. We had also decided on the font and style we wanted, so I did not have to waste time figuring that part out. Knowing which title card went with which scene made it easier to focus on placement and timing instead of just guessing. I noticed that having done all the prep work before this stage really helped because everything felt set up and ready to go. I mostly had to concentrate on making sure the cards appeared at the right moments to match the scenes. The only tricky part was getting the timing exactly right so that each title card fit naturally with the clip it appeared over. Sometimes it took a few tries to adjust the start and end of a c...

Figuring Out the Sound

Image
For this part of editing, I mainly focused on fixing and adjusting the sound, which was honestly harder than I expected at first. Even though I was starting to understand Capcut more, working with audio felt like a whole different challenge. In the beginning, the sound did not line up with my clips the way I wanted it to, and that made certain scenes feel awkward or off. I had to figure out how to trim, split, and move audio without messing up the timing of the visuals. It took a lot of small adjustments to make everything match correctly. At first, I kept second guessing myself because I was not sure if I was placing things in the right spots. Moving around the scream in the scene was probably the hardest part because it had to hit at the exact right moment to actually be effective. If it was even slightly off, the scene would not feel as intense. I kept replaying that part over and over until it finally sounded right. Once I got into the groove of editing the audio, it started ...

Getting Use to Capcut and Editing

Image
For this part of editing, I used Capcut to start putting my opening together, and it was honestly way harder than I expected at first. This was my first time ever using Capcut, so I went into it thinking it would be simple, but I was definitely wrong in the beginning. My first problem was just trying to access everything properly. I had trouble finding the clips I uploaded, and there were moments where I could not even figure out how to get to the actual editing screen. It felt like I was clicking random buttons just trying to see what would happen. That part was frustrating because instead of editing my film, I was stuck trying to understand the app itself. I also started stressing a little because I felt like I was wasting time. After a couple of tries, I finally figured out how to import my clips correctly and drag them into the timeline. Once I got past that step, everything started to make a little more sense. At first, the layout looked really confusing and kind of overwhel...

Music Mishaps When Editing

Image
For this part of production, I focused on the issue of copyright and music selection for the opening. Originally, I wanted to use the song Last Friday Night by Katy Perry because it perfectly matched the fun and chaotic sleepover vibe I was going for at the beginning of the montage. The energy of that song fit the pink pajamas theme so well and would have made the scenes feel even more authentic. However, I quickly realized that using copyrighted music is not simple, especially for a school production that still has formal requirements. I did send out emails asking for permission to use the song, but unfortunately they were sent a little too late in the process. I tried to find multiple contacts connected to the rights of the song, but it was harder than I expected to figure out who exactly to email. I was only able to get one response, and although they did not directly deny permission, they also did not clearly approve it. The other contacts I reached out to did not respond in ...
